Bowling

Tuesday the 12th was Mother's Day here in Thailand. The Centre was closed this day and so some of us decided to get together to go bowling. We invited some students along, and found out when we got there that it was their first time bowling....

Hiking, and Elaphant Riding, and Bamboo Rafting ...oh My!

Last Saturday Sarah and I joined the SIM team for a grand adventure that everyone coming to Chiang Mai must do. You start early in the morning with a hike (which is pretty extensive). Luckily we took a different route then they sometimes decide to take. This one was more of a glorified walk...Sarah told us the other hike was straight up. :)
It's not potato farming, but it sure is dirty...
We then ate a marvelous lunch along the roadside. Everything was good. I'm discovering a lot of Thai food that I like. Then we head off to the elephant Camps. You grab a partner, climb on and start your treck through the jungle with your elephant friend. This next picture pretty much describes our experience with our elephant. The workers there offer you a bag of bananas for 20 baht in the beginning of your journey... well we weren't going to buy any until our elephant wouldn't move unless he had something. We had the stubburn elephant :)
Later we went Bamboo Rafting. We were all advised not to bring our cameras. This was going to be another wet experience. It was so fun going down the river, seeing the villages, and getting to see people flip over in the water. I was soaked once again. I seem to go everywhere in Thailand that involves getting wet. In the words of our guide, "No Wet, No Fun"
I had a great day.

Mini Olympics--Friday Night Party

In honor of the real olympics, the U.K. team came up with having a Mini Olympics here at the Centre. It was a huge turnout and it ran so smoothly. Everybody was put on a team with a different country. US, Canada, Germany, China, and Japan. the events included Yahting, 10 pin bowling, Discus (Ring toss), Long Jump, and 400m run (really you just pushed a little man along a track with your finger). I must give props to the team for making the games "packable"; everthing was suitcase friendly :0) Enjoy the photos:
